Peartree Hill Solar Farm
The solar farm, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire would provide enough low-carbon energy to meet the equivalent annual needs of approximately 167,000 homes.
Project update
The examination period for Peartree Hill closed on 6 January 2026.
The Examination ran for 24 weeks from 22 July 2025 and included eight hearings and nine deadlines for written submissions. In total over 700 documents have been submitted by RWE and interested parties as part of this stage of the Development Consent Order process. All the documents are available on the project page on the Planning Inspectorate’s website.
The Examining Authority will now prepare its recommendation to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero over the next three months, with a final decision expected in July 2026.
The need for solar
The UK has a legally binding commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This can only be achieved with the roll-out of reliable, affordable, clean energy sources.
As one of the cheapest and most rapidly deployable forms of renewable energy, solar will play an important role in addressing the climate crisis, while helping the UK to become more ‘energy independent’, reducing our reliance on expensive fossil fuel imports for electricity and heating.
The UK government has set an ambition of reaching 45 to 47 gigawatts of installed solar capacity by 2030, a five-fold increase on current installed capacity, and our proposals for Peartree Hill will make a key contribution towards achieving this ambition.
Our proposals at a glance
RWE is bringing forward proposals for Peartree Hill, a solar and battery storage project that would provide 320MW of clean energy, enough to power the equivalent of approximately 167,000 homes.
More information about our submitted proposals and changes we made in response to feedback received from our three pre-application consultations can be found on the Proposals page and within our You Said, We Did booklet on our Documents page.
All the application documents are also available on the Documents page.
All documents submitted as part of the Examination are available on the project page on the Planning Inspectorate’s website.

Who is RWE?
The initial plans for Peartree Hill were presented by JBM Solar during the non-statutory consultation in Autumn 2023. JBM Solar has since been acquired by RWE, one of the three largest solar developers in the UK. It is RWE’s ambition to have a carbon neutral energy portfolio by 2040, providing clean, secure and affordable energy to millions of households.
Proposals for Peartree Hill are still led by the same knowledgeable team with the same values. As part of RWE, Peartree Hill will benefit from vast energy expertise, through design, construction and operation. For more information about RWE, you can view our website here.
